Mueller moves to Porsche Formula E
The Porsche Formula E Team has announced that Nico Mueller will race for the team in the upcoming season, replacing Antonio Felix da Costa who has moved to Jaguar.
Mueller raced for Porsche customer Andretti last season – taking best results of fourth in Miami and Jakarta – but speculation of a move to the factory team has been rife for over a year following his joining Porsche’s wider roster of factory drivers in August 2024. With da Costa moving on, and Andretti signing Felipe Drugovich to race alongside Jake Dennis, it paved the way for the move to finally happen.
“I’m incredibly proud of this step and thank Porsche Motorsport for their trust,” said Mueller. “My last season wasn’t easy, but it was all the more instructive – that motivates me tremendously to repay the team’s trust on the track. I’m looking forward to getting to know the team even more and I am convinced that Pascal and I will form a strong duo. I want to contribute as quickly as possible to helping the team build on its recent successes.”
Mueller will partner Pascal Wehrlein at the team, the 2023-24 world champion having been at the team since 2020–21.
“I’m delighted that Nico is joining us and believe he’s a great fit for the team,” said Wehrlein. “A good collaboration is the foundation for success, but nothing in motorsport comes easily – we have to keep working hard. I think Nico and I share this attitude. That’s good, because preparing for GEN4 alongside the racing season will demand a lot from all of us.”
With this season expected to be another close fight between the manufacturer teams, vice president of Porsche Motorsport Thomas Laudenbach believes that the signing of Mueller – who, while highly-rated in the Formula E paddock, has yet to win a race – will stand them in good stead against the likes of Jaguar, Nissan, and the Stellantis teams of DS and Citroen.
“I am delighted that we continue to have one of the strongest driver pairings in the field,” he said. “Pascal is, of course, a well-known figure. Nico has been able to familiarize himself with the Porsche 99X Electric at Andretti during the previous season and is therefore well prepared when he gets into the factory car.
“Our goals for the upcoming season remain the same: We want to fight for all three titles at the finale in London next year.”

Dominik often jokes that he was born in the wrong country – a lover of NASCAR and IndyCar, he covered both in a past life as a junior at Autosport in the UK, but he’s spent most of his career to date covering the sliding and flying antics of the U.S.’ interpretation of rallycross. Rather fitting for a man that says he likes “seeing cars do what they’re not supposed to do”, previously worked for a car stunt show, and once even rolled a rally car with Travis Pastrana. He was also comprehensively beaten in a kart race by Sebastien Loeb once, but who hasn’t been?
