Jaguar TCS Racing signs da Costa

Jaguar TCS Racing has announced the signing of Antonio Felix da Costa on a multi-year deal partnering Mitch Evans.

Da Costa joins the team from Porsche where he spent the last three seasons, racking up five of his 12 wins in the category, and takes the place of Nick Cassidy who will race for Citroen this season.

"Joining Jaguar TCS Racing, a team with a rich legacy in motorsport, is an incredible honor," he said. "The team’s resilience and pursuit of performance and innovation is something I’ve always admired, and I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the impressive Jaguar I-TYPE 7.

“Partnering with Mitch, one of the most experienced drivers in Formula E and a close friend, is a privilege. I’m excited for this next chapter – to learn, push boundaries, and play my part in driving the team forward for Season 12 and beyond."

Da Costa has been in Formula E since the inaugural season, and took the title in 2019-20 for DS Techeetah in what was his first season with the team following stints with Aguri and Andretti. He joins Jaguar at a time of change, with not only him coming in, but also Ian James as team principal, who replaces James Barclay who had been at the helm of the operation since its inception.

“We’re delighted to welcome Antonio to Jaguar TCS Racing,” said James. “His performance over the last 11 years in this championship has been consistently impressive, and his approach to racing aligns perfectly with our values as a team.

“As we enter the final season of the GEN3 Evo era, we’re confident that we will see great results with António and Mitch, as they form arguably the most competitive and exciting driver pairing on the grid.”

Mitch Evans, however, will provide some familiarity, having competed in all but one of Jaguar's Formula E races – a DNS at the second Tokyo E-Prix race being the only blot on his copybook. Following a formidable partnership with Cassidy over the last two seasons, with the pair combining for 10 wins and the 2023-24 teams’ and manufacturers’ titles, Evans believes his new teammate can help the team progress even further.

“Welcoming António to the team feels like the beginning of an exciting new era with fresh energy and a shared ambition for the future,” he said. “We’ve built a special team at Jaguar TCS Racing over the last few years, and with Antonio here I’m now looking forward to pushing each other, learning from one another, and together taking the team to even greater heights.”

Dominik often jokes that he was born in the wrong country – a lover of NASCAR and IndyCar, he covered both in a past life as a junior at Autosport in the UK, but he’s spent most of his career to date covering the sliding and flying antics of the U.S.’ interpretation of rallycross. Rather fitting for a man that says he likes “seeing cars do what they’re not supposed to do”, previously worked for a car stunt show, and once even rolled a rally car with Travis Pastrana. He was also comprehensively beaten in a kart race by Sebastien Loeb once, but who hasn’t been?
