Koch and Team Korthoff part ways
Kenton Koch and Team Korthoff have mutually agreed to part ways with four rounds remaining in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
In a statement on social media, Koch wrote: "Today marks a sad day, but also a day of new beginnings. Team Korthoff and I have decided to part ways mutually. There’s absolutely no hard feelings and the circumstances that led to the team and I’s decision was really no one’s fault."
Koch, Daniel Morad, and Mikey Taylor finished third in GTD at the Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen in June. This turned out to be Koch's final race in the No. 32 Mercedes-AMG GT3, which did not appear at the following race in Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (CTMP, formerly Mosport).
"Watkins was a perfect example of the men and women that make the team phenomenal. Grit and determination with precision is what got us that podium and couldn’t be more proud to have been a small part of it," Koch said.
Koch first joined Herb Korthoff's team as a Michelin Endurance Cup driver in 2023. He was later elevated to a full-time role during the 2024 season and gave the Korthoff team its first IMSA WeatherTech series win at VIRginia International Raceway.
"I’m thankful to have been a part of this journey with them. Without it, I’d not be where I am today and wish the team the best of luck in their future. What [a] treat it has been and I look forward to seeing those guys in the paddock," he said.
Koch, who is also leading the GT World Challenge America Pro and GT4 America Silver championships driving for Random Vandals Racing, stepped in at Triarsi Competizione for the most recent IMSA WeatherTech round at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park and finished seventh in his first race for the Ferrari customer team.
This arrangement was made after Korthoff Competition Motors, as the team has been known this season, sat out the CTMP round.
RACER.com has approached Team Korthoff for an official comment regarding the future of the team following its absence from CTMP, and the departure of co-driver Seth Lucas before Watkins Glen.
