Van der Zande keeps Tower ahead in second CTMP practice

Through two practice sessions at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Tower Motorsports and super-sub Renger van der Zande continue to lead the way.

As they were in Practice 1 yesterday, the No. 8 Tower ORECA 07 of van der Zande set the fastest time in LMP2 - a 1m08.175s, a new unofficial LMP2 course record by just a few hundredths of a second

But heading into qualifying this afternoon, the No. 22 United Autosports USA ORECA looks like a strong contender. Daniel Goldburg, the team's Bronze driver, actually set the car's best lap time at 1m08.500s to put the car in second place.

Felipe Fraga in the No. 74 Riley ORECA was third, followed by the No. 43 Inter Europol Competition and No. 99 AO Racing cars.

Both Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3s led their respective GT classes, and both had Chevrolet Corvettes in second and third behind them.

In GTD PRO, the No. 14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus of Aaron Telitz turned in a 1m15.270s to lead the way, with the two Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports cars in second and third behind him. Antonio Garcia led the duo in the No. 3 Corvette Z06 GT3.R, followed by teammate Tommy Milner in the No. 4.

Jack Hawksworth set a late flyer to drive the No. 12 Vasser Sullivan Lexus to first in GTD, with a 1m15.597s. He displaced local hero Robert Wickens and his hand-controlled No. 36 DXDT Racing Corvette from the top spot. Wickens set a 1m15.985s that would hold up for second best, an improvement from 10th in Practice 1 yesterday. Matt Bell in the maple leaf-liveried No. 13 AWA Corvette was third-quickest.

The session was interrupted once by a red flag; at half-time, Casper Stevenson in the No. 27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 went off at Turn 9, hit the barrier, and sustained damage to the left-front.

JDC-Miller MotorSports' No. 79 ORECA LMP2 suffered an engine failure after turning just nine laps, and now there will be work done to get the engine changed before Qualifying starts at 4:00pm ET.

Qualifying for the Chevrolet Grand Prix will air live on Peacock in the United States, and on the official IMSA YouTube channel and IMSA.TV in most other countries worldwide.
