Earnhardt Jr. reflects on a pivotal moment with dad Dale Sr. from new documentary

Dale Earnhardt Jr. wanted to be a race car driver like his dad, but Dale Earnhardt Sr. hadn’t realized that yet.

“I panicked,” Earnhardt Jr. tells RACER when addressing a moment on that topic which NASCAR fans will see in the upcoming Prime Video documentary on his father. “It was a very, very shocking few minutes.

In the four-part series, Earnhardt Jr. describes a day when his father, Dale Sr., and wife Teresa brought home an art kit for him. The two were under the impression the younger Earnhardt wanted to be an artist and were ready to enroll him in art school because of the racing related projects he made.

But instead, it was a moment that highlighted that the father didn’t know his son very well. Earnhardt Jr. was clearly bothered by the moment and reliving the memory during the documentary.

Earnhardt Jr. explains more in the video below.

The first two episodes of ‘Earnhardt’ will be available for streaming on Prime Video beginning May 22. The final two episodes will be released on May 29.
