NASCAR tweaks format for the Busch Light Clash
NASCAR has made several tweaks to the format for the Busch Light Clash at the L.A. Coliseum, which will be the third edition of the exhibition event.
Cup Series teams will take to the track for the first time Saturday, February 3, for a combined practice and qualifying session. The field will be split into three groups and each group will have three sessions on track. However, there will not be single car qualifying and a driver’s fastest lap from the final practice session will determine the lineups for the heat races.
There will be four heat races of 25 laps. The top five drivers from each heat race will advance to the Clash.
The heat races will take place Saturday instead of Sunday. The Sunday, Feb. 4, events will be the last chance qualifying race and the Busch Light Clash.
NASCAR also made the move to one last chance qualifying race (75 laps) instead of two races of 50 laps as in years past. And the field size for the Busch Light Clash has been decreased by four as only 23 drivers will make the field versus 27 from last year.
The Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum will be 150 laps and only green flag laps will count. The race must finish under green.
