GZ gets Extreme E reserve call-up for Chile
Christine Giampaoli Zonca will return to the Extreme E paddock at this weekend’s Copper X Prix in Chile, serving as the series’ official reserve driver alongside British Rallycross champion Patrick O’Donnovan.
GZ began the season racing for Carl Cox Motorsport and secured a her – and the team’s – maiden podium finish in the category with Timo Scheider in the first part of the Hydro X Prix in Scotland. She was subsequently replaced by Lia Block ahead of the first visit to Sardinia in the summer, but will return in place of Tamara Molinaro, who has been called up to race for JBXE – herself replacing Hedda Hosaas, who has moved to McLaren in a one-race deal.
“I am delighted to be back in the Extreme E paddock once again,” she said. “It all feels so familiar, like one big family, and I am really excited to get back behind the wheel of the Odyssey 21 for the season finale.
“It is a great championship to be a part of, and having carried out the role of Championship Driver previously I am delighted to do so once more.
“The course in Chile is one of the most exciting on the Extreme E calendar, so I am eager to jump back in and work alongside Patrick to help deliver one of the best events yet.”
GZ has been a fixture in the Extreme E paddock since the series began in 2021, racing for XITE Energy Racing in that first season, before moving to Veloce Racing last year. She remained with the team for the first four of last year's five round schedule, moving to the championship reserve role at last year's season finale as Veloce debuted its pairing of Molly Taylor and Kevin Hansen.

Dominik often jokes that he was born in the wrong country – a lover of NASCAR and IndyCar, he covered both in a past life as a junior at Autosport in the UK, but he’s spent most of his career to date covering the sliding and flying antics of the U.S.’ interpretation of rallycross. Rather fitting for a man that says he likes “seeing cars do what they’re not supposed to do”, previously worked for a car stunt show, and once even rolled a rally car with Travis Pastrana. He was also comprehensively beaten in a kart race by Sebastien Loeb once, but who hasn’t been?
