Bearman to get FP1 outings for Haas in Mexico, Abu Dhabi
Ferrari young driver Oliver Bearman is going to take part in FP1 sessions in both Mexico and Abu Dhabi for Haas later this season.
The 18-year-old is in his rookie Formula 2 season and has made a quick impact with multiple race victories, including both races during the Baku weekend, and feature wins in Spain and Italy. As part of Haas’ partnership with Ferrari, the team regularly runs drivers from the Scuderia’s academy and Bearman is in Qatar with Haas to embed himself within the team ahead of his two outings.
“We’re very happy to offer Oliver Bearman these outings in Mexico and Abu Dhabi,” Haas team principal Guenther Steiner said. “He’s had a stellar rookie season in Formula 2, four wins is testament to that, and as part of the Ferrari Driver Academy – we know his background preparation coming into these weekends will be first-rate. We look forward to welcoming Oliver into the team and have him drive the VF-23.”
The FP1 session will be Bearman’s first appearances during a Formula 1 weekend, and he wants to ensure he is useful to Haas throughout the two sessions.
“I am so happy to be joining Haas F1 Team driving in Mexico and Abu Dhabi,” Bearman said. “Getting to Formula 1 has been my dream since I was go-karting, so to be driving a car for the first time this year is really special. I’m grateful to the team, and of course Ferrari, for allowing me this chance. I’m working hard to make sure I’m ready to support the team as best I can on both occasions.”
Bearman will be pulling double-duty in Abu Dhabi, which is hosting the F2 season finale. He currently sits sixth in the drivers’ championship heading into the final round, and can mathematically finish as high as second.
