Logano tops second Saturday Bristol practice

Joey Logano was the fastest of five Fords in the top 10 in final NASCAR Cup Series practice at Bristol.

Logano’s Team Penske Ford led the way with a lap of 128.830 mph (14.894 seconds) with Jimmie Johnson second fastest at 128.571 mph. Logano posted his fastest time on Lap 7, and he ran 108 in the 50-minute session.

Austin Dillon was third fastest at 128.563 mph with Kevin Harvick fourth fastest at 128.477 mph. Kyle Busch rounded out the top five with a lap of 128.185 mph.

Completing the top 10 were Matt DiBenedetto at 128.125 mph, Martin Truex Jr. at 128.980 mph, Ryan Newman at 127.963 mph, Daniel Suarez at 127.946 mph, and Ryan Blaney at 127.852 mph.

Polesitter Chase Elliott suffered right-rear damage to the quarter panel of the No. 9 Chevrolet when he bounced off the wall exiting Turn 4 early in the session. Elliott returned to the track for practice after his Hendrick Motorsports team assessed and worked on the damage.

Six teams served 15-minute practice penalties for being late to the inspection line. They were Landon Cassill, Darrell Wallace Jr., Ryan Preece, Gray Gaulding, Bayley Currey, and Timmy Hill.

Nine drivers ran more than 100 laps in final practice with Harvick racking up the most at 112.
