GP3 Series veteran Julien Falchero is set to switch to the Road to Indy this season, joining Belardi Auto Racing for the full Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires schedule. The French native will drive the No. 4 machine for Belardi Auto Racing.
After spending the past year competing for British team Arden Racing in the GP3 series, 22-year-old Falchero makes the move to the U.S. with his eyes fixed on the 2019 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires championship.
“I am really proud to be driving for Belardi Auto Racing — everyone on the team has welcomed me wonderfully and the first day of driving the car was great,” Falchero said. “I felt really comfortable in the car and I can’t wait to get to round one at St. Pete and to fight for the championship.”
Falchero recorded nine top 15 finishes in 14 GP3 starts last season, with a best finish of 11th at Barcelona. Falchero also finished fourth overall in the MRF Challenge Formula 2000 series, running two V d V events in the LMP3 class and two races in the European Le Mans competing in the LMP2 class.
“Julien has been extremely quick in off-season testing. At the Spring Training test, he proved this again,” team owner Brian Belardi said. “It was more about getting acclimated to his engineer and the the team. He will be an immediate contender for the championship and we can’t wait for St. Pete to start the season.”
Falchero and his Belardi Auto Racing teammates Zachary Claman Demelo and Lucas Kohl kick off their 2019 Indy Lights campaign this Friday with practice on the streets of St. Petersburg followed by race 1 on Saturday.
