Adam Cornell collected wins in both Bertil Roos Racing School Winter Series races at Carolina Motorsports Park last weekend, and clinched the overall series title.
By taking top honors in the eight-race series, Cornell took home the $10,000 top prize.
Gabe Jasper also scored a weekend sweep in Group 2 and finished runner-up in the overall standings, just five points behind. Jasper claimed a $5,000 second-place prize.
In Group 1 Race 1, pole winner Cornell lost the lead at the start to Phillip Jasper (Gabe’s son), who had earned his own sweep in the previous Winter Series event at Palm Beach International. Cornell and G. Jasper swapped the lead multiple times over the next few laps before Cornell pulled off a crossover move and the winning pass.
Kirk Weatherman eventually passed Jasper for the runner-up spot, while Joe Lattanzi and Craig Curran rounded out the top five.
The top three remained the same for race No. 2, with Cornell, Weatherman and Jasper taking the podium finishes. Gordon Dinger raced his way up to fourth in this second race, with Lattanzi crossing the finish line in fifth-place.
Gabe Jasper vaulted past his son in the points with his win in the first Group 2 race. Starting from the pole, Gabe gradually pulled away from second-place Jimmy Dai. Vinnie Virga raced to the runnerup spot ahead of Raja Malek; Reiner Oberst captured fourth and Dai rounded up the top five.
Jasper and Virga continued to pace the field in the second Group 2 race, while Oberst took the third podium spot. Dai rallied to take fourth and Charles Shiner was fifth.
Other top finishers in the overall standings were Phillip Jasper in third-place with 133 points, Virga fourth at 129 and Weatherman fifth at 119 points.
