IndyCar to expand warm-up sessions
The NTT IndyCar Series will expand the number of pre-race warmup sessions by two in 2019. A recent shift in policy saw warmup sessions deleted from most races, barring street courses, with the time repurposed into dedicated pit stop practice sessions, or lengthened practices, earlier in the event.
Having reviewed the practice during the offseason, warmups will be retained for this weekend’s St. Petersburg event, Long Beach, Detroit, and Toronto, due to the limited track time available on the city streets where the events are held, and two road courses have been added, with Barber Motorsports Park and Mid-Ohio bringing the tally to six rounds.
The inclusion of Barber was made as a result of its late 4:30 p.m. start time, which presented the series with ample time to fill on race day, and the same is true with the 3:30 p.m. start for Mid-Ohio.
