Rossi stars at Road America as Rasmussen suffers hybrid failure
Alexander Rossi put in another remarkable performance at Road America as the ECR driver took the No. 20 Chevy from 25th and last to sixth at Sunday's XPEL Grand Prix.
The finish matched Rossi’s best of the season — a sixth on the Phoenix oval — and also underscored ECR’s progress on road and street courses, where the American has three results inside the top nine so far this season.
“I am proud of the Java House ECR team for continuing to keep after it and never giving up,” Rossi said after being moved to the rear of the field due to an unapproved engine change that came with a six-position grid penalty. “It was a very difficult weekend for us all the way up until the race. It was hard to miss out on a podium, but we definitely salvaged a good result today after a tumultuous two days."
Rossi’s teammate Christian Rasmussen wasn’t as fortunate at Road America. He reached the top 10 at one point in the No. 21 Chevy, but suffered a hybrid failure that echoed Rossi’s hybrid failure at the Indianapolis Grand Prix, where both stopped within sight of the start/finish line.
“I am very disappointed to have another promising day end in a way that was out of our control,” Rasmussen said. “We had a good car, things were falling our way, and we had made it up into the the top 10. Unfortunately, our day was cut short."
