In wet conditions from the overnight rain and a steady drizzle, the first qualifying session for Pirelli GT4 America’s SprintX categories at Circuit of the Americas was a challenge for all. When the spray cleared, Nolasport’s Matt Travis had given Porsche’s new 718 Cayman GT4 CS the pole, claiming the VP Racing Lubricants Pole Position Award with a 2m30.753s fast lap.

Jarett Andretti and the Andretti Autosport team took second overall and first in the Am category in the No. 36 McLaren 570S GT4, while TRG’s Kevin Woods, making his series debut, was third in another Porsche 718 Cayman CS.

Two champions rounded out the top five, 2017 TCA titlist and GT4 regular Matthew Fassnacht (Murillo Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4) qualifying fourth and 2018 TC champ Vesko Kozarov (Rearden Racing Audi R8 LMS GT4) fifth.

Pirelli GT4 America will be the first race of the SRO Motorsports American season — a 1 hour long, two-driver SprintX round Saturday afternoon.
