Andretti Autosport announced today that Robert Megennis will drive its No. 27 entry for the 2019 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires campaign.
“We are thrilled to have Robert as part of the team,” said Andretti Autosport president J-F Thormann. “Last year the team showed great strength on-track collecting 14 wins and we have no doubt our 2019 line up will be just as strong. Through winter testing, Robert has shown great speed and potential and we can’t wait to see how that translates within the season.”
New York native Megennis competed in the Pro Mazda Championship (now Indy Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires) last season with Juncos Racing, finishing fifth in the standings with six podium finishes and 11 top-10 finishes. Prior to that, the now 18-year-old raced two seasons in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship with Team Pelfrey, earning Rookie of the Year honors in 2016 and taking his first win (from the pole) at St. Petersburg in 2017.
“I’m very excited to drive in Indy Lights in 2019 with Andretti Autosport,” said Megennis. “It’s an honor to be a part of such a prestigious and successful team. All of our offseason tests have been terrific, and I’ve been impressed with every aspect of the team. While I know Indy Lights will be a big jump, I am confident that Andretti will give me a great car and I am ready to get going. Thank you to Palo Alto Networks, Optiv, Sailpoint, CyberArk, and my family for this amazing opportunity.”
Megennis will race alongside veteran driver Ryan Norman in the team’s No. 48 car in the Indy Lights season, which opens on March 9 in St. Petersburg.
