SRO Motorsports America, the producers of Blancpain GT World Challenge America, have announced a new performance-based award with $500,000 in prize money available for the 2019 season.
The Kavana Cup is being offered by Kavana Rum to a driver or driver pairing that “executes at the highest level throughout the season for a sizeable year-end bonus.” The award will feature a prize purse totaling $500,000 after completing a set of objectives including pole positions, fastest race laps, and weekend race win sweeps. $250,000 will go toward Blancpain GT World Challenge America competitors, $150,000 to Pirelli GT4 America national series (Sprint or SprintX), and $100,000 to TC America.
“When we came on board with SRO Motorsports America for the 2019 season, we quickly realized that this is the place for the world’s best drivers, teams, and competition,” said Josh Tolley, founder and chairman of Kavana Rum and founder and managing partner of Purple Monkey Garage. “As chairman of not only Purple Monkey Garage, but also Kavana Rum, I wanted to step up even more and provide the premier accomplishment in sports car racing, the Kavana Cup.
“This desire to reward performance in sports car racing is going to expand beyond just the drivers as we seek to expand this program over the coming years. We intend to elevate global sports car racing for teams and drivers around the world, but equally exciting, we plan to share the love with the fans too. You can anticipate additional future announcements from our office that will continue to add value to this great sport.”
“It’s truly a testament to the dedication from our first-year partner Josh Tolley and the family of companies he runs to reward the paddock with a cool and unique prize,” said Greg Gill, president and CEO of SRO Motorsports America. “Their investment in our paddock with the Kavana Cup and as our Official Business Mechanics through Purple Monkey Garage is just the first step for our partnership.”
