Graham Rahal was nowhere on Wednesday — next to last on the 35-car speed chart — but he did an about-face on Thursday morning.
Rahal, in the No.15 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Honda, turned the fastest lap of the first two hours with a 226.047mph while running in traffic.
Tony Kanaan, who clocked the fastest no-tow circuit on Wednesday in A.J. Foyt’s ABC Supply Chevy, was second best at 225.896mph.
Marco Andretti, fastest of the month at 227.053mph on Wednesday, came back with a 225.584mph in the Andretti Autosport US Concrete Honda and Ed Carpenter continued to be among the top runners with a lap of 225.093mph in the Fuzzy’s Chevy.
Charlie Kimball was best of the morning no-towers at 223.208mph in the Fiasp Chevy.

Robin Miller flunked out of Ball State after two quarters, but got a job stooging for Jim Hurtubise at the 1968 Indianapolis 500 when Herk's was the last roadster to ever make the race. He got hired at The Indianapolis Star a month later and talked his way into the sports department, where he began covering USAC and IndyCar racing. He got fired at The Star for being anti-Tony George, but ESPN hired him to write and do RPM2Nite. Then he went to SPEED and worked on WIND TUNNEL and SPEED REPORT. He started at RACER when SPEED folded, and currently writes for RACER.com and RACER magazine while also working for NBCSN on IndyCar telecasts.
