NASCAR admits missed penalty call on Harvick
NASCAR has admitted to missing a penalty on Kevin Harvick during the O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 Sunday at Texas.
During a Lap 291 pit stop under green flag conditions, the right-rear tire rolled away from Harvick's No. 4 car and toward the middle of pit road. A crew member retrieved the tire and Harvick went on to finish second to Kyle Busch.
However, it should have been an uncontrolled tire violation.
"It was a judgment call, and after conducting a post-race review of the incident an uncontrolled tire penalty for the 4 car would have been correct," NASCAR senior vice president Scott Miller said. "We missed that call."
The no-call stood out after Ryan Blaney and Team Penske were penalized for a tire violation early in the race - a violation that was not clear, and which NASCAR has not yet explained.
