Overnight, the temperature at the speedway dropped from the mid-80s to just 36 degrees. With cloud cover lingering over the track throughout the morning, a heavy mist then moved in during Xfinity Series qualifying and left NASCAR officials scrambling to get the track dry for Cup teams to get their cars dialed in for Sunday's 500-mile race.
Jimmie Johnson was fastest at 198.143mph over Kevin Harvick at 197.984mph. Daniel Suarez was third fastest at 197.790mph with Kurt Busch fourth fastest at 197.759mph. Martin Truex Jr. rounded out the top five at 197.614mph.
Completing the top 10 were Kyle Larson (197.592mph), Erik Jones (197.571mph), Alex Bowman (197.549mph), Clint Bowyer (197.527mph) and Ryan Blaney (196.865 mph).
In his backup car after a crash in Saturday's first practice session, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was 26th fastest.
