The No. 57 Mercedes-AMG GT4 Continental Tire Series entry from Winward/HTP Motorsport will convert from a part-time effort to a full-season effort in IMSA’s top development category. It joins a pair of sister Winward/HTP Mercedes-AMG GT4s, giving the squad a trio of podium options.
Team owner Bryce Ward and co-driver Indy Dontje were previously scheduled for four rounds in the GS category, but after coming away from Daytona and Sebring holding fifth in the championship standings, the full-time move was made.
“Initially I wanted to have the experience of driving the four classic tracks of Daytona, Sebring, Watkins and Road Atlanta,” Ward said. “I was concerned that I would be stretching the team too thin running the full season but the team has been absolutely amazing and have given Indy and myself a very competitive car. The Mercedes is a fantastic car to drive and I have really enjoyed it. Thanks to Russell and the team’s encouragement it was a very easy decision to commit to the full season.”
Ward’s young Dutch teammate Dontje was understandably pleased to learn he’ll be vying for the GS title with the Houston-based program.
“I’m really happy to extend my race program with Bryce here in the USA,” he said. “I think we’re doing a great job in what is an incredibly strong field and we really have a chance to fight for the championship. It’s also great to see that Bryce believes in our partnership and that he wants to continue with me for the rest of the season. From now on I will be spending more time in the simulator to learn all the tracks and ensure I’m fully prepared for the next race at Mid-Ohio.”
