Former Formula 1 driver Paul di Resta has joined Anglo-American outfit United Autosports for the Le Mans 24 Hours. The news comes on the heels of United Autosports’ recent addition of former F1 and IndyCar driver Juan Pablo Montoya for his Le Mans debut with the team this June.
Di Resta, who currently races in DTM with HWA and believes he could still be an optioncould still be an option as a Williams reserve driver, has added Le Mans to his 2018 program after two runs in IMSA with the team, racing at Daytona and Sebring; the former was his first-ever sports car race.
In France, di Resta will share United’s No. 22 LMP2 class Ligier JS P217 with Phil Hanson and Filipe Albuquerque.
“The team did a fantastic job in the U.S. races and ran very well up in both for extended periods. They know the cars, and they know Le Mans, we’ll be pushing hard for the whole race,” said di Resta.
“Filipe is very quick and anyone watching Phil closely in Daytona and Sebring will have seen that he was gathering more and more speed and consistency. His run at Sebring in particular showed he has real potential over this year and into 2019 to get right onto the ultimate pace.”
