Toro Rosso described its first run of the 2018 Honda-powered car as “a perfect day” after completing a shakedown at the Mugello circuit on Wednesday.
The new car – shown in a photo snapped by the team on social media (above) – will be officially unveiled on Monday morning in the Barcelona pit lane ahead of the start of pre-season testing, but Toro Rosso and Honda completed a filming day on Wednesday at Mugello, some 45 miles from the team’s Faenza headquarters. In what was the first run for the team since its switch to use the Honda power unit, Toro Rosso was left pleased with the smooth progress it made.
“Everything ran smoothly and according to plan,” a Toro Rosso spokesperson said. “We finished the program without any issues and completed all the promotional requests ahead of schedule, it was a perfect day.”
Both Pierre Gasly and Brendon Hartley spent time behind the wheel as part of the promotional event, during which the team is limited to covering a maximum of 100km (62 miles) on specific Pirelli tires. Much like Red Bull’s shakedown at Silverstone on Monday, running took place in wet conditions, but that did not impact on track time.

As well as Toro Rosso, Sauber also gave its 2018 car a first run at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Wednesday. The C37 was launched on Tuesday and turned its first laps during a filming day in Spain at the same venue that both pre-season tests will take place.
The next new car launches will take place on Thursday, with Mercedes carrying out promotional running as part of a launch event at Silverstone, before Ferrari will also unveil its new car later in the day.
McLaren will then launch the MCL33 on Friday before both Toro Rosso and Force India are expected officially reveal their cars in the pit lane on Monday. Red Bull will also roll out with its race livery in Barcelona having launched the RB14 in a special edition blue and black camouflage color scheme earlier this week.
