The Honda of America Race Team, comprised of employees who field privateer entries under the HART banner, will step up from the Continental Tire Series to IMSA’s big leagues using an Acura NSX GT3 for four rounds in 2018.
The HART entry will put team leader Chad Gilsinger and Acura factory driver Ryan Eversley to work at Daytona, Sebring, Watkins Glen and Petit Le Mans as they vie for the North American Endurance Cup in IMSA’s WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GT Daytona class. A third driver will be named at a later date.
“This is definitely a dream come true for me,” said Gilsinger. “This is what I have been working towards since I started driving and am very honored to take this next step with my team, my co-workers, and my friends. They all have been instrumental in getting us here and I’m glad they trust me enough to put me in this position. Of course, I also have to thank [Honda Performance Development] for this opportunity and Honda of America Manufacturing and PMC for their support of our team.”
For Eversley, who spent 2017 in a RealTime Racing Acura NSX GT3 in the Pirelli Challenge Series, returning to IMSA with his friends at HART is a perfect marriage.
“I’m very happy to be rejoining HART in IMSA for next year,” he said.”We’ve had some really good success together in the past and I’m honored that they would choose me to drive for them while taking on the biggest challenge in their program’s history. The team learned a lot working with Michael Shank Racing last season and with my background in the NSX I think together, we’ll be in the hunt for the NAEC championship.”
“This has been a long time dream for the team,” added crew chief Andrew Salzano. “We have worked really hard to get here and multiple people have committed countless hours of personal time to make it happen. We are all very excited to get this opportunity but now we have a lot of work to do in a short period of time.
“We have fielded professional level cars in the past with the Super Touring Accords and have competed with a GT car before with the previous model NSX but this will be the first time for the team to compete at the prestigious Daytona 24 Hour race. It has been one of those bucket list races for the team and we are all excited to check that one off the list.”
