NBC Sports bowed out as America’s TV portal for Formula 1 with its coverage of the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. After touting its year-on-year growth in audience for its F1 coverage ahead of the finale, NBC’s last F1 race scored a 0.29 rating on NBCSN, averaging 444,000 viewers. That’s an identical rating to last year, but a slight decrease in viewers (467,000).
Next year, F1 returns to ESPN, which previously served as the sport’s U.S. TV home from 1984-’97. Although ESPN has yet to reveal specific details about its coverage plans, the network is expected to base its programming around the live race coverage provided by F1’s central world feed.
