Lally returning to Magnus Racing
Although Magnus Racing has yet to specify where it will be racing in 2018, the team has announced that it has renewed its association with veteran sports car racer Andy Lally, who drove with Magnus from 2012-16.
"It's great to have Andy back with the team," said team owner John Potter (pictured at left with Lally celebrating the 2016 Rolex 24 at Daytona win together). "The relationship between Andy and our team has always been strong, and we're thrilled to see him return for 2018. The extent of our program is still a work in progress, but it's a great testament to our organization that Andy is willing to return after having a strong 2017, and we're thrilled to have him. The specifics of next year are still a work in progress, but we're excited to secure a major piece of the puzzle."
Lally's first five years with Magnus produced consistent success in IMSA competition. In his debut drive for the team, Magnus Racing took its first victory at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, following that up with winning the Brickyard Grand Prix en route to a debut title in the North American Endurance Cup. Since then, the team has scored four more victories, including the 2014 12 Hours of Sebring, 2016 Rolex 24 and 2016 North American Endurance Championship.
"I couldn't be happier to return to my family at Magnus," said Lally. "Some of my best memories in my career are with the team, and it's great to return with them in 2018. I would really like to express my gratitude to Michael Shank Racing and HPD for a tremendous 2017, and it was not an easy decision to return to John Potter and everyone at Magnus, but it felt like the right move. There's a lot in motion right now, but I believe we'll immediately be in a position to contend, and I'm excited to get the season going.
Magnus Racing says it "is currently evaluating a number of options on their 2018 plans, with additional announcements set to come including the car, series, and Andy's surprise co-driver."
