Penske confirms ongoing partnership with Verizon

Roger Penske is sorry to see the

upcoming split

between Verizon and IndyCar following the 2018 season. The Captain, who introduced the telecommunications company to IndyCar in 2009, hailed the brand's involvement in marketing the series to a wider audience when it took over title sponsorship of the sport in 2014.

"We want to thank Verizon for the support they have provided the IndyCar Series and the leading role they have played as they helped us grow the sport as the title sponsor for the past five years," he said "Verizon has helped the series reach new fans through their world-class activation and technology, including the Verizon IndyCar Mobile App.

Penske also confirmed Verizon's sponsorship of his team will continue uninterrupted.

"While they will no longer be the series' title sponsor after 2018, it is exciting they will still be in the sport through their relationship with our organization."

Team Penske's Will Power won the 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series championship while carrying the Verizon name and colors on his No. 12 Chevy. More recently, Penske drivers Simon Pagenaud (2016) and Josef Newgarden (2017) have won IndyCar titles with cars wearing additional Verizon branding.
