Front Row split 'upsetting' but a sign of the times - Cassill
Landon Cassill admitted Tuesday afternoon that while the situation is "upsetting," he understands his not returning to Front Row Motorsports next year is just business.
Cassill was informed Monday he would not be back
with the Bob Jenkins-owned team in 2018, where's he driven the past two seasons. Speaking with general manager Jerry Freeze, Cassill said he was not given a specific reason other than the team going in a different direction and planning radical changes."It's definitely upsetting because I think I did a good job for the team and for my sponsors. I certainly work hard for everyone, but it is the business," Cassill told reporters while testing at Martinsville Speedway. "It's how the sport goes and it's definitely a challenging time in the sport for these teams and drivers, and sponsors as well. They're in positions to have make decisions almost every single year now.
"So, it's definitely tough. But I've been through this before and it seems like my work ethic and my ability to work with guys and these teams have always kind of carried me. I don't plan on that changing."
At 28 years old, Cassill has been a full-time driver in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series since 2012. He's made 253 starts with one top-10 finish. Going into Talladega this weekend, Cassill in 32nd in points.

In assessing his future, Cassill admitted does not have sponsorship tied to him. This season, Cassill's car has featured support from Love's Travel Stops, CSX and Jacob Companies to name a few partners.
But wherever he winds up next season, Cassill will either have to bring funding or find himself in a situation he's had in the past – land in a good deal with a pre-existing partner.
Between taking and making phone calls himself, Cassill has representation that will work to help him land on his feet. And over the next couple of weeks, he believes available options will begin to take shape.
"I've been through these situations and I've learned that you take every phone call – and I've definitely received a few and I've definitely made a few," Cassill said. "You don't turn anybody away. These are the kind of times you have to be the most humble and open-minded."
A statement from a Front Row Motorsports spokesperson stated: "We're thankful for the last two years having Landon as a teammate and an ambassador for our sponsors, and we'll keep working hard with him and the No. 34 team for the best possible results the remainder of the 2017 season."
With that said, Cassill does not anticipate being released from the car before the season is over.
