Abreu to take time off after Eldora crash

Rico Abreu was among several drivers who went for wild rides during the 36th Four Crown Nationals at Eldora Speedway on Saturday night.

Abreu was competing with the All Star Circuit of Champions and the USAC Racing National Midget Series portion of the 36th Four Crown Nationals. At the start of the second heat, his car tagged the wall in Turn 1 and flipped several times. Abreu was able to get out of the car and was taken to a hospital.

On Sunday, Abreu took to Facebook to say that he was okay, but was going to take a few weeks off.

Tyler Esh, a fellow driver with the All Star Circuit of Champions, suffered several injuries when his car flipped multiple times. He was transported to Dayton, Ohio for treatment. His mother Susan reported Sunday that Esh was stable, with some bleeding on the brain and lung and back injuries.

The night also saw Patrick Bruns suffer an ankle injury when his car hit the wall and barrel-rolled during Silver Crown Champ Car Series qualifying.
