Hinchcliffe among racers to donate to Harvey relief

Verizon IndyCar Series driver James Hinchcliffe has pledged to donate his winnings from the final two races of the season to support the Red Cross as it tends to the widespread disaster created in Texas – and potentially Lousiana later this week – by Hurricane Harvey and its aftermath.

The popular Canadian, who won for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports earlier this year at the Long Beach Grand Prix, was moved in part by comments made by racing legend Mario Andretti.

F4 U.S. Championship drivers Dakota Dickerson of San Diego and Jordan Sherratt of South Africa have donated a portion of their winnings from the past weekend's winnings from VIR to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund for the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Code 3 Associates, a Stewart-Haas Racing sponsor on Danica Patrick's car, is in the Houston area as well. The nonprofit is dedicated to providing professional animal disaster response and resources.

Known to be a sport that is extremely active with charitable causes, it wouldn't be a surprise to see more drivers and members of the racing community follow suit by pledging prize money to the Red Cross and other relief organizations in the coming days.
