Magnussen: Past struggles are behind me

Kevin Magnussen believes that in Haas F1, he has finally found a team that will allow him to prove his worth.

The American-owned team became Magnussen's third F1 employer in as many seasons, following on from frustrating stints at McLaren in 2014, and Renault last year. While that nomadic CV could be interpreted as a threat to his future if he doesn't perform at Haas, the 24-year-old believes that his previous struggles were the product of situations different to the one he now finds himself in.

"I don't look at it [as a last chance]," Magnussen said. "I feel grateful for the chances I've been given in Formula 1, I feel like I've deserved them. I feel like in some cases I've been unlucky, and I don't think I deserved to change teams this much. But these were the circumstances, and I've made the best of it that I could.

"I'm not saying I did everything perfectly, but I think I did well against a world champion [Jenson Button] in my first year in Formula 1, and was the best performer in the team I was with last year. I was the first to score points with this team as well, so I don't think I've done too bad. There's a reason I'm still here."

Magnussen scored his only career podium to date with a second place on his F1 debut at the 2014 Australian GP, and went on to finish the season 11th in the points, three places behind Button. After spending 2015 on the sidelines he returned with Renault last year and delivered two top-10s before signing a multi-year agreement to move to Haas for 2017.
