Action Express Cadillac leads COTA IMSA FP3
A new Cadillac DPi-V.R took over the top spot in FP3 at Circuit of The Americas as the No. 31 Action Express Racing entry of defending IMA Prototype champions Dane Cameron and Eric Curran displaced Thursday's fastest car, the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac.
Cameron's fast lap of 1m56.117s was the fastest of the event, and was trailed by the sister No. 5 AXR Cadillac (+0.215s) and the first of the WEC LMP2s with Stephen Simpson behind the wheel of JDC-Miller Motorsports' No. 85 ORECA 07-Gibson (+0.276s).
The WTR Cadillac triggered the first red flag of the day when the No. 10 stopped out on course while dealing with a door that refused to stay closed, but other than that brief stoppage, the final one-hour session prior to qualifying was completed without additional dramas.
GT Le Mans had a popular leader as the Houston-based Risi Competizione team put the No. 62 Ferrari 488 atop the class with a 2m02.915s lap. The Italian machine was shadowed by two of Germany's best as the Porsche GT Team No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR (+0.114s) and the BMW Team RLL No. 25 BMW M6 (+0.247s) were relatively close behind Risi's Giancarlo Fisichella.
The Daytona-winning Alegra Motorsport No. 28 Porsche 911 GT3 led GT Daytona with Mathieu Jaminet's 2m06.653s lap. The No. 48 Paul Miller Racing Lamborghini Huracán GT3 (+0.405s) and the No. 75 SunEnergy Racing Mercedes-AMG (+0.540s) trailed by a considerable margin.
The No. 38 Performance Tech Motorsports PC held its huge advantage over the rest of the three-car class with a lap of 2m01.305 set by Pato O'Ward that was a full 3.2s ahead of the next entry.
