Probation for 3GT's Alon after Long Beach move
Robert Alon will spend the next three WeatherTech SportsCar Championship races behaving like a model citizen if he wants his newly-awarded probation period to end in a peaceful manner.
The 3GT Racing driver drew the ire of IMSA's race officials and his fellow competitors after attempting a pass in the Turn 11 hairpin on the final lap that, through more than 40 years of racing at Long Beach, has shown to be a surefire headache for all involved.
The Californian, keen to seize two positions from GT Daytona class rivals, stuffed his No. 15 Lexus RC down the inside of the No. 86 Acura NSX GT3 and the No. 96 BMW M6 GT3 under braking, and then proceeded to create a three-wide blockade exiting the corner as the other two GTD cars were unable to turn with the No. 15 Lexus perched nose-first into the barrier.
A thoroughly confusing series of events then followed with the three cars blocking most of the track, and behind them, the order of the GT Le Mans race changed fundamentally as the leader fell to fifth as a result of Alon's low-percentage maneuver (seen at the 2:03 mark below).

Alon will need to complete the upcoming IMSA races at Circuit of The Americas, Belle Isle in Detroit and the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen without incident to be removed from probation.
