Front Row open-minded about third charter
Front Row Motorsports is still "weighing that out" when it comes to potentially expanding to a third car next season.
"Obviously, expanding to another team is a big undertaking, not just in dollars but space, people, all of that," Freeze told RACER. "We're certainly not – I think – planning on it right now, today. It's in the back of my mind, for sure."
Currently, Front Row fields the No. 34 for Landon Cassill and the No. 38 for David Ragan and Friday, Jerry Freeze, the general manager of Front Row Motorsports, said the primary focus is those two cars.
In early February, it was revealed the organization had bought a charter during the offseason from BK Racing, which they turned around and leased to TriStar Motorsports. However, the charter will return to Front Row before the start of the 2018 season where it either needs to be used or sold.
In a team release, Front Row stated there would be preparation "to expand to three chartered cars in 2018."
For Freeze, leasing the charter to TriStar and driver Cole Whitt has helped the program get off the ground. Something Front Row was happy to do for another group that's considered to be good friends.
"We bought (the charter) just to be able to expand Front Row," Freeze continued. "The more solid we can get the financial component on (the 34 and 38), then it makes it a little bit easier to talk about the third (car). We're still kicking around a lot of different ideas.
"Probably halfway through this year we'll have to get serious on a direction, but right now we're just really more focused on trying to get these two cars as competitive as we can."
Entering the STP 500 at Martinsville Speedway (Sunday, 2 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1), Cassill sits 27th in points and Ragan 33rd.
