MotoGP rider Barbera breaks collarbone in Valencia crash
Reale Esponsorama Racing rider Hector Barbera suffered a broken left collarbone during a private test at Valencia and is scheduled to have surgery tomorrow.
The team, formerly called Avintia Racing, confirmed the injury on social media and said Dr. Xavier Mir will perform the operation at the Clinica Dexeus in Barcelona. This is Barbera's fourth season with the team.
It's not yet known if Barbera, who also crashed during testing at Phillip Island, will be ready for the upcoming MotoGP test in Qatar (March 10-12) or the season-opening race at Losail on March 26. He finished 15h fastest in Phillip Island testing on the new GP16 Ducati after struggling in the Sepang test.
The 30-year-old finished 10th in the 2016 championship, and filled in at Japan and Phillip Island for injured Ducati rider Andrea Iannone after he fractured the T3 vertebra in his upper back.
