IHRA Summit Sportsman National Championship back in action this weekend
Following the IHRA Summit Sportsman National Championship's debut visit to Immokalee Regional Raceway and Palm Beach International Raceway in Florida, the series leaves the Sunshine State for a three-day weekend at the historic State Capitol Raceway in Port Allen, Louisiana, outside Baton Rouge.
State Capitol is the third-oldest, continuously run quarter-mile drag strip in the U.S., but this weekend we'll be using the eighth-mile layout for the IHRA Summit Sportsman National Championship, which will be run Friday, March 3 to Sunday, March 5.
Qualifying and practice will take place Friday, with full separate shows Saturday and Sunday, all counting toward the Summit Sportsman National Championship, which will pay $15,000 to each winner in seven classes, and $2,000 to the winner in Junior Dragster.
Here are the classes, and the current points leaders: Top Sportsman, Bill Powell; Top Dragster, Troy Williams, Jr.; Super Stock, Jerry Hatch; Stock, Merrill Schrimscher (pictured); Quick Rod, Chad Duke; Super Rod, James Perry, Jr.; Hot Rod, Troy Williams, Jr., and Junior Dragster, Nicholas Ferraro.
And if you can't be there in person, Saturday and Sunday eliminations will stream live on ESPN3.
