Shootout @ Old Tucson announces first athlete lineup
Announcing the first round of star motorsports athletes, Speedleague confirms Doug Mittag, Ryan Beat and George Hammel for the inaugural Shootout @ Old Tucson Off-Road Grand Prix. The action-packed weekend will consist of three different classes racing through the historic Old Tucson with both PRO 4 and PRO Lite trucks, and UTVs.
Doug Mittal (left) will be driving the #81 PRO 4 truck for the first annual Shootout @ Old Tucson event. As the 2015 Pro Lite Champion for the Lucas Oil Off Road Series (LOORRS), Mittag is excited to compete in the inaugural event. "I'm looking forward to being a part of the first ever Shootout @ Old Tucson, the short-course battle royale, where I plan on taking the Pro 4 win and bring $20,000 home!"
Known as a destination set for Old West films, the world-famous Old Tucson will host the first motorsports event on May 6th and 7th. "Set against the backdrop of the Tucson Mountains, this event will be like nothing you have ever seen," says race organizer and Speedleague CEO Brian Gale.
Having competed in LOORRS for the past five years, Ryan Beat (right) will wheel the #51 in the PRO Lite class. He started his career in Motocross and Supercross and has worked his way through the ranks. In 2016, Beat walked away with seven podiums and one win, taking second place overall in championship rankings.
"It's time we finally get to battle the best of the best for some real money. No Points, No Politics, Just Cash! So you know that means, the gloves are coming off!" Beat said.
Bringing excitement with over 20 years of racing experience, X Games athlete and local Tucsonan, George Hammel will compete in the Shootout UTV class. Hammel broke his back during a professional motocross race in 1998 and was told he would never compete again. In 2009 he won a Gold Medal for the Extremity Games and has proven to overcome adversity countless times. Excited to race in his hometown, Hammell says he looks forward to the inaugural event.
"I can't wait!" said Hammel. "The Shootout is gonna be awesome! Great racing with the best offroad racers in the world, the true old southwest venue of Old Tucson, and of course great food and drinks for Cinco De Mayo weekend. It's like having the Super Bowl of Offroad racing in our backyard!"
The two-day event will begin with qualifying on Saturday and continue through Sunday, where the feature race will take place. Tickets are now available, visit us at www.speedleague.org for more information.
