
IMSA: Rebellion leads Roar FP1
Neel Jani and the Rebellion Racing team topped the opening Roar Before the 24 practice session in his WEC-spec ORECA 07-Gibson. The Swiss driver – reigning World Endurance Championship LMP1 title winner with the Porsche LMP1 Hybrid team – posted a 1m39.164s lap to lead Ricky Taylor in the No. 10 Cadillac DPi-V.R (-0.332s) and Dane Cameron in the No. 31 Action Express Racing Cadillac (-1.976s) completed the top three.
“I didn’t expect this at all to be fastest,” Jani told RACER.
Both Nissan Onroak DPis were busy during the session; Scott Sharp was fastest in the No. 2 Tequila Patron ESM entry (-2.619s). Both Mazda RT24-P DPis spent most of the session completing last-minute work in the garage, but the No. 70 did make it out in the last 15 minutes to complete installation checks.
2004 Indy 500 winner Buddy Rice, back in sports cars with the BAR1 Motorsports PC team, jumped to P1 in the No. 20 car (1m44.025s) and the three other PCs that ventured out were within 0.4 seconds.
GT Le Mans was the defending Daytona winners at Corvette Racing lead the class as Jan Magnussen (1m44.760s) was fastest in the No. 3 C7.R. Ryan Briscoe was second in the No. 67 Ford chip Ganassi Racing GT (-0.287s) and the sister No. 66 Ford GT driven by Dirk Muller (-0.399s) was third.
GT Daytona found Conor De Phillippi in No. 29 Audi R8 LMS at the top (1m47.629s). Tristan Vautier was a close second in his No. 75 Mercedes-AMG GT3 (-0.078s) and Robin Liddell placed another Audi in third (0.344s).
