IHRA: Track profile - The legendary Darlington Dragway

When you call your track "legendary," you'd better have the credentials to back that up – and Darlington Dragway does, indeed.

Says the track: "Since 1976, the Legendary Darlington Dragway has hosted numerous drag racing events from weekly Grudge TNT events to IHRA Summit Super Series points races. Darlington Dragway has also hosted the Winter Nationals events that have featured drag racing legends such as 'Big Daddy' Don Garlits, 'The Bud King' Kenny Bernstein, John Force and many others. In 2015, Darlington Dragway was also home of the IHRA Summit Super Series Bracket Finals champions."

In 2017, the Legendary Darlington Dragway will play a big part in the IHRA season, hosting the Darlington Dragway Summit Sportsman National Event on March 24 to 26.

The renovated eighth-mile track, located in Hartsville, South Carolina, has seen plenty of changes in the last 40 years, many coming since 2015, when the Miller family bought their local drag strip. The Millers know racing from the inside – the family owns and operates Pee Dee Fleet Truck and Trailer Center, but their passion is Pee Dee Fleet Motorsports.

"Being in racing as long as I have and my family racing as long as we have, we've been to a lot of venues and have done a lot of racing, and we know what we want," Russell Miller said.

The track ends its 2016 season this Saturday, weather permitting, with a Test 'n Tune session. The 2017 season officially starts in March, with plenty of track improvements planned between now and then.
