IHRA: Settles' new look at Summit World Finals
Each year as the Summit World Finals at Memphis International Raceway approaches, one of the most anticipated moments is the reveal of Summit SuperSeries twin dragster builds, largely to see what Jeroen Settles of Imagine That Customs has come up with as the new look of the year.
And once again, Settles didn't disappoint. The Summit SuperSeries Top class champ and the Junior Dragster champion both won gorgeous cars that Settles styled primarily in a luminous dark green.
"Green was a bit of a departure for me," Settles said. "I just try to give the winners something special, something they want to keep. I try to knock it out of the park each year."
The consensus is, he did.
"I spend a lot of time pushing myself on these designs and on the incredible amount of detail because as a sportsman racer myself, I want to support the IHRA Summit SuperSeries racers as best I can and I want them to be proud of their accomplishments and this car," said Settles.
Settles typically starts out with a design, "but I definitely wing it a little bit. I do a rendering but don't stay 100 percent to it. I get a few projects a year when I get total freedom, and those are really fun, I just start on the car and create it as it goes along."
Settles started out painting model cars in high school, and won some awards. He started painting helmets, "then I just transitioned into cars. And 10 years later, here we are."
The only problem: Settles is so busy, "I've never really had time to paint anything wild for myself. But it's coming!"
Can't wait to see it.
