PWC: Heckert on GTS Race 1 pole
Scott Heckert captured pole position for the first of two Pirelli World challenge GTS races this weekend at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Heckert's Racer's Edge Motorsports SIN R1 GT4 (1m30.666s) held 15-year-old Parker Chase at bay by the smallest of margins (-0.015s) as the teen ran out of time to take one more shot at pole in his Performance Motorsports Group Ginetta GT4. The 30-minute session was cut to approximately 28 minutes due to Nate Stacy's crash in his No. 14 Ford Boss 302 that was sitting stationary off course, and with the checkered flying early, Heckert's pole was assured.
Andrew Aquilante was third in his No. 37 Calvert Dynamics/Phoenix Performance Ford Mustang Boss 302 (-0.127s).

"We came here an adjusted on the package we had at Sonoma," Heckert said. "We had been running on race prep stuff earlier this weekend. Then we thought we had a good setup in qualifying trim too. This is my first time here and I was anxious to get here. I have raced it on iRace many, many times but never in person. Everyone talks about the 'Corkscrew' so it was great to finally go down it. It's not the same as dropping down in real time with a race car. It's been fantastic to drive all weekend."
Heckert's GTS pole is just part of his hectic schedule in Monterey.
"It's a busy weekend for me in four different races, GTS and SprintX, but I'm really looking forward to all of it," he added. "Plenty of seat time this weekend and that is great. Overall, it's a great track to race on and it is nice to have the best view for the first race."
