The No. 66 Ford GT took home the DEKRA Green Award over the weekend at VIRginia International Raceway. The GTLM entry, part of Ford Chip Ganassi Racing, was the most efficient car on the track that day. The car uses EcoBoost technology, which, according to Ford, combines turbocharging and direct fuel injection to improve fuel economy without sacrificing power.

“Our Ford Performance Chip Ganassi Racing Teams Ford GTs represent each competitor in the IMSA GTLM category,” said Mike Hull, Managing Director of Chip Ganassi Racing Teams. “Each stands apart with their respective technology.  Having now been the recipient of the award twice, it’s pleasing to be defined as fast, but more to the point, clean and efficient across the finish line first with DEKRA.  The Ford GT is based upon Ford’s EcoBoost technology.  It clearly represents Ford’s efficient engine technology combined with vehicle dynamics to match.”

Handed out for the last two seasons, the Green Award is a centerpiece of the Green Racing partnership between IMSA, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), United States Department of Transportation (DOT), and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). It is sponsored by DEKRA, IMSA’s lead technical partner which supports all independent pre-and post-race technical and safety inspections.

“We’re always proud of the DEKRA Green Racing Award, because it means their cars performance was clean and efficient,” said Donald O. Nicholson, President of DEKRA Automotive. “As a leader in automotive emissions & safety testing, it’s a natural fit for DEKRA to sponsor this award. “

At the end of the season an overall Green Award winner will be crowned. Learn more about the Green Award
