
IHRA: Throwback Thursday - 2013 Northern Nationals
It's always one of the biggest events in Central Michigan when the IHRA comes to town at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan.
The IHRA is coming to town this weekend for the Northern Nationals, the final points event for the IHRA Drag Racing Series, meaning the points battle in the four Pro series – AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car, Pro Stock, Nitro Motorcycle and Pro Mod – will be decided, and the champions crowned.
Tech opens at 9 a.m. Friday, with a Sportsman test and tune from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A Pro "Happy Hour" will be from 2-3 p.m. There's Summit Sportsman action after that until 6:50 p.m., when the pre-race ceremonies start. Pro qualifying follows, then Summit Sportsman qualifying, and the second round of Pro qualifying at 9 p.m.
Saturday morning, there's a church service at 8:15 a.m. and Summit Sportsman qualifying from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., when the final round of Pro qualifying begins. Pro eliminations are at 5 and 7 p.m., with Pro Finals at 8:30 p.m.
Sunday, there's more Summit Sportsman racing, beginning at 9 a.m.
Tickets purchased in advance are $20 for Friday and $25 for Saturday general admission; day of event is $25 for Friday and $30 for Saturday. Children ages 6-12 are $10 each day; children six and under are free with a paid adult.
