Kurt Hill: Another step forward

Rounds three and four of the Skip Barber Championship Series are now done and dusted at Road America. It was a great weekend with warm dry conditions for some great racing.

I was able to pick up where I left off with my performance from Pittsburgh, and then improve over the weekend. I qualified eighth and the gap to the leaders was smaller than it has ever been. I was happy how qualifying went and was confident that I could have some good races from here.

In the first race I made a great start, but so did everyone else and I remained in eighth. My main goal for the race was do put in some consistent laps, which I was able to do better than anyone else. Unfortunately another driver spun in front of me, meaning I had to slow to avoid it. After this I had a fairly uneventful race and was slowly catching the front runners, after a big gap was made from the guy who spun. My consistent laps meant I wasn't challenged and finished in eighth.

Another great start in race two saw me take a place at the start to go to seventh. Places one through seven were all in a big nose to tail line and positions constantly changed. After a great battle in this front pack I made a small mistake going into turn 5 and ran a little wide. At Road America even small mistakes can have some big consequences, which I found out. I dropped back a couple of seconds which I was able to slowly claw back but I just ran out of laps and finished seventh.

Overall this weekend was another massive leap forwards with my performance. I'm getting closer and will soon be right up there. Will the next race be the one where I can bridge the final gap to the very front?

Regards
Kurt
