PWC: Lewis extended at Calvert for rest of 2016

Michael Lewis will finish the Pirelli World Challenge GT series season for Calvert Dynamics in the No. 98 Porsche GT3 R, the team announced Tuesday.

"Thank you to Dr. Preston Calvert and the Calvert Dynamics team for providing three additional races to finish out the season," Lewis said. "This was totally unexpected and I can't thank Preston and his team enough for running our No. 98 Porsche GT3-R for more races.

"I look forward to working with the Calvert Dynamics team session-by-session and race-by-race to earn strong results for the remaining events. That's what we did at Road America and that's the best way to get results. Calvert Dynamics stepped up in a big way and I am forever grateful to Mr. Preston Calvert and his entire crew for this opportunity."

Lewis, who scored back-to-back wins on the streets of St. Petersburg with EFFORT Racing before the team suspended operations, joined the Calvert Dynamics team for the rounds at Road America – bringing home a 10th-place finish in Round 12 and a 14th place in Round 13 – and was already set to take part in the upcoming July 29-30 rounds at Mid-Ohio. He brought with him engineer Stefan Pfeiffer as well as crew members to the expanded Calvert Dynamics program of twin Porsche 911 GT3 Rs in addition to the team's GT3 Cup Porsche. This follows news that Preston Calvert

will make his GTA class debut

at Mid-Ohio, taking over driving duties in the No. 76 Calvert Dynamics Porsche 991 GT3-R from Andrew Davis, who will return to coaching duties before teaming with Calvert to run the SprintX class at Utah Motorsports Campus and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Calvert pointed to the chemistry between Lewis' group and the Phoenix Performance group as an "excellent experience."

"The chemistry between these two groups of people was outstanding, and we all worked very well and smoothly together. The addition of Stefan Pfeiffer to the team as Race Engineer has brought fresh and steady leadership to the efforts of the crew working on the Phoenix cars. Michael Lewis is an outstanding young man, and a terrific racer, who is an excellent teammate. ... We will work together to develop sponsor support for Michael for the 2017 season and beyond."
