NASCAR: Harvick 'disgusted' with pit crew mistakes

Kevin Harvick finished fourth on Sunday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway but was once again left disappointed with the performance of his pit crew after several subpar stops during the middle stages of the race.

This has been a disturbing trend for the 2014 championship-winning team, and Harvick feels additional changes might be necessary if they are to remain contenders once the Chase for the Championship begins in two months.

"I'm disgusted, to tell you the truth," Harvick said after the race. "It's the same thing every week. We just make mistake after mistake and until we clean that up we don't have a chance to win races. We're putting ourselves in a hole every time we make a mistake. It sucks because the cars are plenty fast, but we are just not executing."

Harvick lost a combined 14 positions across two particularly troublesome pit stops, one in which the team had trouble removing lug nuts and another for an air gun problem. Harvick has faced pit crew problems during the entirety of his three-year tenure at Stewart-Haas Racing, even swapping over-the-wall team with Tony Stewart prior to his championship run two years ago.

Harvick has just one win but is first in the standings based purely on the consistency of 15 top-10s. But he knows he's going to have to start sealing the deal once the playoffs roll around. That might be a challenge with his current pit crew.

"It's really going to have to come from the top," Harvick added. "I mean they are going to have to clamp down and there is no way we can win a championship like this unless they straighten some of this stuff out."
