They don’t call it the International Hot Rod Association for nothing – aside from the sanctioning body’s presence in Australia, there has been a long, mutually rewarding relationship with the fans and competitors from Canada.
This weekend, for the fourth event of the season, the IHRA Drag Racing Series will be in Grand Bend, Ontario for the IHRA Mopar Canadian Nationals at Grand Bend Motorplex.
It’s the first of two Canadian events this season, with the next race moving west to Edmonton, Alberta. The relationship between the Grand Bend Motorplex and the IHRA has been a long one, dating back 16 years to the inaugural event, the 2000 IHRA Mopar Canadian Nationals presented by Castrol. And that’s this week’s “Throwback Thursday” feature.
This broadcast was from The Nashville Network, and it’s anchored by Ralph Shaheen with a very young-looking Tommy Johnson, Jr. and Aaron Polburn helping out. The racing is consistently solid, and you’ll likely make a couple of trips to Wikipedia to check out some familiar names, and what they’re doing now.
We don’t want to give much away, but the historic Top Fuel final between Shirley Muldowney and Clay Millican shouldn’t be missed.
