He was removed on a stretcher, taken to the infield care center and transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital, which confirmed the driver was in its care.
The series released a statement on his condition:
Driver Matt Mingay was injured today in the Stadium SUPER Truck Series at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. Mingay’s truck overturned during the third lap of today’s race, which was eventually suspended after a lengthy delay due to the incident.
Mingay was transported to DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital where he is currently listed in serious condition, but is stable at this time, according to a hospital spokesperson.
According to Mingay’s family, he suffered facial injuries.
Further updates on Mingay’s condition will be provided as they become available.
Fellow Australian Paul Morris, who was competing in the race, accompanied Mingay’s wife Sheena to the hospital.
“Obviously we had a very serious situation on our hands,” Morris told Speedcafe.com. “Thankfully Matt has escaped the worst, but he has a tough road ahead of him. Sheena is keen for everyone in Australia and for Matt’s fans around the world to know that he is out of a critical condition.
“Matt is one of the toughest guys I know and I am sure everyone is wishing him a fast recovery.”
