It has been an incredible start to the IMSA United SportsCar season for Christina Nielsen, Alessandro Balzan and Scuderia Corsa. Currently leading GT-Daytona Championship, the duo is aiming to extend the lead at this weekend's IMSA SportsCar Championship race on Detroit's Belle Isle.

Victory at the 12 Hours of Sebring, followed by a runner-up finish at Laguna Seca, have put them six points ahead of their closest championship pursuers and helped Ferrari to move within three points of the manufacturers championship lead.

Scuderia Corsa has found its way onto the podium in the past on the notoriously challenging, bumpy, and hard to pass circuit on Detroit's Belle Isle. This Saturday, drivers Christina Nielsen and Alessandro Balzan will be aiming to repeat the team's previous successes in Detroit and extends their six-point advantage.

"I'm looking forward to this weekend in Detroit," said Nielsen. "It's great to lead the championship this early, but there's a lot of points to win or to lose so we're just going to go in and focus on the racing. The team and Ferrari has given us a great car that's competitive. Hopefully, we can keep that momentum going. We definitely have some other strong competitors - I don't think the field has ever been this strong. I think we have a good shot, I think we've been making good improvements. A lot can happen and we're just going to take it one race at a time."

With a length of 100 minutes - shorter than the typical two hour and 45-minute race length - and a circuit that provides limited passing opportunities, track position and speed in the pits will be key to a strong result.

"The Belle Isle circuit is very challenging to pass on, and if you lose even a little time in the pits you can lose many positions on the track," said Balzan. "But I am confident in the Ferrari that Scuderia Corsa, it has great grip and braking which you need here. Christina did a fantastic job in qualifying at Laguna Seca, and our pit crew is the fastest in the series. I'm really excited to race this weekend."

Qualifying will be held on Friday, June 3 at 5:05 PM ET and will be streamed live on IMSA.com. The race will be shown live on FOX Sports 1 on Saturday, June 4 at 12:30 PM ET.
