NASCAR: Edwards shrugs off collision with Larson

After surviving an 18-car crash on lap 355, Carl Edwards expected to be one of the contenders near the end of the AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway. However, those hopes came to a premature end five laps later when he was spun out by Kyle Larson on the backstretch following a restart with 40 laps to go.

Edwards shared the front row with teammate Matt Kenseth but just didn't get going when the green flag waved. This allowed Kenseth to scoot away with the lead and Kurt Busch to take second on the outside. Larson looked under Edwards off the exit of Turn 2 and the two came together on the backstretch.

The contact sent Edwards hard into the SAFER-protected inside retaining wall and out of the race. Larson took blame over his team radio and Edwards appeared to take the incident in stride.

"I was trying to give Kurt a little room and it looked like he got choked up," Edwards said. "As I looked at the replay it looked like I moved down a little bit and Larson got underneath me. I don't think he meant to do it, but it surprised me. I didn't know he was that close.

"We'll just chalk it up to racing."

Larson went on to place second while Edwards stayed in the garage and was credited with a 28th-place finish.
