NASCAR: Audi dispels Cup rumors

Rumors of German auto giant Audi taking an interest in NASCAR have circulated this week. A sudden wave of speculation fostered by a NASCAR.com reporter and various websites have positioned the Le Mans-winning Volkswagen Audi Group brand as the fourth manufacturer to join Chevy, Ford, and Toyota in Sprint Cup, but according to Audi of America, the rumors are unfounded.

"We will continue to focus our efforts on racing in IMSA/PWC, WEC (above) and DTM," an AoA spokesman told RACER. "There are no considerations to enter NASCAR by Audi."

Audi has also been the subject of rumors regarding an entry into Formula 1 in recent years. Those assertions have also been shot down by VAG.
